Nova Scotia’s Reopening Plan Is Too Slow

  • I agree completely with your analysis of the situation. I also applaud you for taking a position that is critical of many of decisions taken in the schedule of reopening in NS.
Since I have returned to NS three weeks ago I discovered it is not always popular to be critical of the path Strang and the Premier have chosen . Your are criticisms are warranted and thanks for using your space to point it out to your readers .

  • Good day, I’ve just read your article in Saturday’s Herald. It’s very easy for non medical professionals to criticize Dr Strang’s plans. We must not lose sight of the fact that our very strict restrictions were put in place because we do not have the medical resources and infrastructure in NS to handle numerous cases. I don’t want to see any further outbreaks or deaths from COVID 19 by things opening up too early and I’m certainly not envious of other province’s plans.

  • Thanks for your fair and accurate criticism of the good doctor Strang.
He has done a fairly good job and the other Atlantic provinces certainly learned from our tough approach.
But rugby players are prone to go overboard from time to time. No pain. No gain. That sort of thing.
And premiers who are neither lawyers nor doctors will do what the doctor says.
So you are quite right. The failure of our reopening is exactly the responsibility of Dr. Strang.
When he attacked flavoured cigarettes in NS (to prevent teenagers buying them and getting hooked) I agreed with him completely.
Until I went to buy my weekly package of pipe tobacco, which I have been using for fifty years, to discover Dr. Strang had banned that too!
I’ll be 70 this August. I’m 5 foot 11 170 pounds. Take no medication. BP 121/81. Drink an entire litre of craft beer every day. Can still swim 25M in 18 seconds.
    Dr. Strang is younger.
How dare he tell me I cant smoke my pipe?
I’m in better shape than he is.
    Anyway thanks for your column.

  • Good article Bill and I do agree with your comments on Dr. Strang. He is merely a delivery person after receiving information from his support group and yet he receives all the glory!!
