SNC-Lavalin claims it can build a 300 MW nuclear reactor in 36 months for around $2 billion, roughly the same as the so-called Atlantic Loop. The big difference is the politics of only one province would be involved instead of four. The CANDU technology also has other advantages, including the ability to “burn” spent fuel from other reactors.
The devil would be in the details, which is one reason why it might be a good topic for this blog to explore.

Thanks Bill. Good to be looking at alternatives. But probably well beyond my capabilities to explore.

Great article on the energy/environment situation.
Guilbeault is an idiot and so is Trudeau for their commitment to keep oil in the ground no matter what. Will they ban air travel next? My trains run on batteries, but will CN’s and CP’s?
I recall when the Chernobyl nuclear plant exploded. It was not that long after that Germany decided nuclear was too dangerous and started to decommission them. How short-sighted! Now they are paying the price. Their neighbour, France, is 70% nuclear, with 56 reactors, and have been for decades. So Germany needs oil or gas which they could get from us if we didn’t have idiot politicians who have these blinders on when it comes the real world use of oil and gas.
I’m sure even Biden is wondering if cancelling the Keystone Pipeline was the right thing to do. He’s directing the oil and gas industry to drill and frack more wells.
Anyway, you said it better than I ever could, so thank you. You should be in Guilbeaut’s place.

I must say reading your latest comment reference Russian aggression in the Ukraine has left me dumbfounded. In the 60”s when the Soviet Union attempted to militarize Cuba no-one including JFK believed or suggested It was unprovoked. JFK had the safety off and his finger on the button, please explain the difference.
Please do not regard this as support for Putin, he is and always been an insane sob but everyone knew that. To suggest that it was unprovoked compromises your creditability, at least for me. WE the west are not standing on high ground
in this dispute, in fact it could be argued that helping the Ukraine with military support continues to perpertrate devastating results for a people that will never enjoy the success they attained and worked very hard for and is now lost for the near and foreseeable distant future.
Setting carbon objectives that are unattainable helps nothing. Kyoto accord the Paris accord have been abject failures achieving nothing. Canada is as insane as California setting objectives that are absolutely nonsense, by 2030 there will be no gas cars sold in California and the next day telling the people to not use their air conditioners and not to charge their cars to prevent the grid from melting down, you can’t make this foolishness up!
Woke is broke

Thanks Jim. You are the second person to correctly observe that the west is not entirely blameless for Ukraine.
