  • Clearly the final question is rhetorical; voter support is the reason. Will the electorate accept that there is no business case based on this report? Even if many of them did accept the validity of the report, would they accept that the government should still do nothing to promote a ferry service without a business case? Probably not; hence the ‘silence’ from the three main parties. Alas, the old downside of democracy, the electorate wants what it wants. The challenge of the politician is to explain the opposing view over and over again while providing some genuine alternatives…of course, to the ongoing chorus of cries of “not stepping up to the plate” etc., et al. Doing what is right is not easy and often detrimental to shorter-term political support.
    Alas this comment could be used as a response for posts/articles on any difficult political issue.
