• Great article Bill. I’ve come to find out that advice I received when I was 10, has held true to this day. You see, when I was 10 years old I had the opportunity to have lunch with then Prime Minister Pierre Elliot Trudeau, at the Delta in Saint John, NB.
He said to me, “Don’t vote for ‘A’ Prime Minister. No. Vote for the politician that will bend over backwards to earn your vote. You vote for the person who is helping you. No matter the political stripe. If they say they can’t help you, then don’t give them your vote.”
This advice has held true to this day. Over the years I have mostly voted PC, because the PC constituent running in my riding actually helped me out. Hell, former PC John Herron even got my NBCC boondoggle fixed and HE DIDN’T EVEN GET ELECTED that year!
I recently voted Liberal, because Leo Glavine helped us out on more than one occasion, so he earned my vote. I even voted NDP a couple of times for the same reason.
I got a wake-up call one time when I voted for Liberal, Laureen Jarret. She said, “You vote for me and if I get elected I’ll be able to help your situation.”
I voted for her. I called her. Called again and again. I got blown off. Wouldn’t give me the time of day. Even when I spoke with her at the grocery store in town. Never again will I vote for her.
I think we’d be in better shape if we had more politicians who really do work for the people. I listen, read and pay attention to all sides and then I decide on the best course of action. Like the old saying goes, “There’s 3 sides to every story….Your side, my side and the truth.”
Keep up the good work, Bill. The more information out there, the better.

Thanks so much for your opinion pieces and fresh view points. As a rare odity in rural NS, a young 30 year old living in New Ross, I see alot of our challenges as well as what strengths we have. What keeps me motivated is reading opinion pieces like yours that are open to any and all ideas. Although you have various comments on your view points, I believe that the only way forward is to face the hard choices and discussions head on. I am glad you are leading this. Keep up the great work!
