My worry is that, if Mr. Steele’s description of Nova Scotia politics is accurate, why would people of ability and integrity be willing to offer themselves for election?
Bill, my take on this is somewhat different. I did have more respect for Steele than most politicians. That is gone. The time to make these revelations was at the time the bad behaviour/ wrongdoing took place. If he had of done it then the taxpayers would have the opportunity to act and demand change. This far after the fact achieves nothing.
He chose to put his own interests/ loyalties and those of his pals before those of Nova Scotians. That is a sad and disgraceful decision on his part. It is as evil as the original actions undertaken by the premier. And why now — opportunity to make money? Sorry I have little time for former politicians who suddenly become more open and transparent when it is to their advantage to do so.
He had the opportunity to make a significant difference and he failed us terribly. No thank you or respect from me!
Graham Steele’s explanation for resigning as finance minister is welcome, but it comes too late. He should have stated his reason at the time, when the information would have been even more useful. As a cabinet minister, his duty to the public should have outweighed his loyalty to his party.
Amen! Graham Steele was one of the best politicians it has been my honour to know. He was responsive and protective of his constituents. If he had been the leader of the NDP, we would still have an NDP government.
In essance former minister Steele , leaves citizens with no valid reasons to trust politics or politicians and it would be very difficult to reasonably argue that he is wrong..

In a democracy don’t we get what we vote for?
(Best we look at ourselves in the mirror next time we vote.)
