Sooner or later, anything ‘done’, will need to be done by other than civil servants – because they cost too much (which we are slowly beginning to recognize). As for consideration of registries outsourcing; perhaps the transparency necessary would be to look closely at exactly what is going on currently.
Perhaps this might present an Opportunity to reduce costs to the end user viz : Taxpayers, the citizens who, in the final analysis, carry the load, whatever it turns out to be…
The first option is not to outsource . The first option is that NS should talk to other provinces and THEY should standardize and then start using on supplier for several provinces OR have one province serve more tan one province OR form a Crown Corporation to service every province. In essence that is what Teranet has done in reverse by starting in one province and moving to other provinces . If it is profitable for them than the business model is there that says it’s amalgamation and having more data in a standardized system that makes it work.
This present govt fails to recognize that the majority of the concerned population voted to remove the NDP as the amanuensis of the NSGEU.
The latter is only concerned with maintaining its membership for the compulsory revenue it produces for the benefit of its executive. They would have the general population retain their lawn maintenance services in January if their were dues to be gained by the union.
An intregal part of govt is to provide public services in the most economical manner available. If “outsourcing” is the most cost effective manner of providing services with no decline in revenue then provide leadership and get on with the job
