Great article today on the Yarmouth saga – so I thought you would get a kick out of my latest poem – my new way of defusing my own anger when I am tempted to submit something to the media. This way I can let off steam with a little humor amongst friends while also lowering my heart rate to a manageable level ! !
Thank heavens you are still willing to be front and center on theses issues.
STORMY SEAS
They wanted a boat
But it wouldn’t float
They called it the Bluenose 3
Thirty million later
It ran like a freighter
There weren’t no guarantee
The rudder didn’t work
As designed by a jerk
Steel weighs more than a tree
A million more
To fix it for sure
Hydraulics would be the key
But then they said
That all that lead
Would put her undersea
The ship would buckle
Like a married couple
Who just could not agree
So what the heck
Another wreck
A government drunken spree
But it don’t stop there
This three ring fair
The Cat must now be free
The Bay Ferries boys
Must have their toys
All risk for you and me
And though the scow before
Ran ashore
After forty million in fees
Now there’s a ten year deal
For a hundred million spiel
While the Premier sings whoopee
I need some help
I’m knee deep in kelp
And screwed to the nth degree!
This subsidization might ‘pay’ for itself, if the traffic count were mostly tourists, not just ferry users. Tourists spend new money (to us)! So the question is, does our Department of Tourism know these numbers?
We could not “afford ” to subsidize the film industry even though they produced many, many more jobs at less net cost. We could not “afford” to subsidize the Seniors Pharmacare Plan even though it was substantially less than the ferry deal and the seniors have paid taxes for years and contributed greatly to this province. We make $10M unwarranted payments to the Teacher’s Pension Plan. We pay for unwarranted courses take by the Teachers. Our main hospital is a threat to our well being.. So on and so on………
If we were not giving our money away to so many unjustified, indefensible causes, that produce so little economic value may be we would be a province which could afford to provide services to those who do, or have contributed to our economy. If we took the Ferry giveaway $$$ and applied them to the Seniors drug plan the premium could probably drop to $0.
So the Premier had a choice – provide a better drug plan to all seniors or create 100-200 jobs for 4 months. He decided to screw the seniors, to hose them for an additional $10M in premiums. Who was he going to give that $10M to…. teachers, ferry operators, US military, film industry……??? The Premier continues to insult the seniors with every give away he dreams up.
Our Premier tells us, in discussing the hospital replacement, that things have to be done differently, we will have to travel to Truro, Moncton, Kentville for our services. I suggest he is right, we do have to do things differently and the first thing would be to put all our MLA’s on a one way trip on the new ferry.
What is it that Donald Trump says about politicians— stupid, incompetent, uncaring, negotiate bad deals, the other party always wins, …………….. Because he is correct he gets votes and attention and unflinching support.
Thanks for this and all the other articles Bill B. Always informative.
