Its rare that I almost completely agree with this op ed….. and thought you’d like to know.
My youngest son just left after a three day island visit. Jacob is 37 and has worked hard for twenty years, including Tree planting here and out west to help pay for his first Applied Science degree (Acadia). Later he finished his Masters of Science at St. Mary’s (while working for Lockeed Martin)….. every week he gets another job offer without any help at all from the bureaucracy.
He has three jobs now.
No grants required.
Thanks for your article.
PS Every person I know who formed a winery in the Valley had government connections and the subsidies were agreed to before they started. So your criticism is fair.
Bill’s analysis indicates the ferry subsidy costs NS taxpayers $1200 per arriving tourist – the Tourism Department recently claimed that each arriving tourist “party” spent an average of $2500 on their NS visit. If each “party” is two people it appears we are paying the entire tab for their visit. Time to call it a day.

Thanks Nick. Actually the average party per car is closer to 3 so we are subsidizing closer to $3,500.
